Developing players for the next level
The Canadian Hockey Club (CHC) is a Lincoln, Rhode Island–based spring/summer hockey program that develops players ages 13–19 for high-level hockey across Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. The program also welcomes international players to join for spring and summer teams.
Now in its third decade of operation, CHC has grown from a single high-school-aged team into a multi-division program, fielding squads that compete in the New England Sports Center (N.E.S.C.) Summer Hockey League in Marlboro, Massachusetts. Teams typically practice 3–4 hours per week at the Rhode Island Sports Center in North Smithfield and Lynch Arena in Pawtucket.
Many CHC alumni have gone on to play Junior, college, and semi-professional hockey.
But CHC's mission goes beyond wins and championships. Every practice and game is treated as a chance to build better players and better people — coaches hold players accountable for effort, attitude, and respect toward teammates, opponents, and officials, alongside the on-ice instruction.

Our Approach: On the Ice and Off
Character Development
Coaches hold players accountable for effort, discipline, and attitude — not just performance. Players are pushed to take ownership of their mistakes, support their teammates, and carry themselves with confidence and humility both in the locker room and at home.
Sportsmanship
Respect for teammates, opponents, and officials is treated as seriously as any drill. CHC presents its Hobey Baker High School Character Award each season to the player who best embodies excellence in hockey, sportsmanship, and ethical behavior on and off the ice.
Skill Development
Structured, high-intensity practices — 3–4 hours a week at the Rhode Island Sports Center and Lynch Arena — sharpen skating, puck-handling, positioning, and game IQ. The pace and detail mirror what players will face at the Junior, college, and semi-professional levels.
Meet the Coach
George Maris founded the Canadian Hockey Club and has served as its program director and head coach ever since, guiding CHC from a single team to a four-division program. Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Maris played high school soccer and rugby before playing U19 hockey, and now lives in Lincoln, Rhode Island.
His coaching resume spans high school, college, and international hockey, including stops at Cranston East High School, North Smithfield High School, Clark University men's hockey, UCONN's ACHA Division 2 program, the Worcester Crusaders Midget team, and the RI Junior Blues. In 2010, he served as Head Hockey Coaching Consultant for the Greek National Team at the IIHF Division 3 World Championships, helping guide Greece to a historic silver medal, and went on to build a youth hockey program and summer camps in Greece.
Championships & Milestones
10th Championship in 11 Years (2017)
CHC fielded four teams — one Division I and two Division II squads plus a Division III team — with three of the four capturing N.E.S.C. Summer League titles. The Division II "Navy" team went 10-1-1, the Division III "White" team won its third straight gold medal, and Division II "Vegas" posted an 8-2-2 record.
NESC Tier 1 Bronze Division Championship (2011)
CHC's U18 boys team won its first NESC Tier 1 Bronze Division title, then traveled to a national tournament in Blaine, Minnesota, and finished 3rd in the top division.
Program Founded (2010)
George Maris launched the Canadian Hockey Club as a single spring/summer team for high-school-aged players; the program has expanded steadily to multiple divisions ever since.
